Generate a Google Maps Platform API key
for WordPress Sites

To use Google Maps Platform functionality in your WordPress site, you will need to generate a Google Maps Platform API key and provide it to your plugin.

This page will take you through all the steps you need to do the following:

  • Create a new Google Cloud Platform project, if you don't already have one.
  • Enable Google Maps Platform APIs and SDKs for your project.
  • Generate an API key for your project.

Once you have generated an API key, provide it to your WordPress plugin to enable it to access Google Maps Platform features on your behalf.


Requirements

A Google Cloud Platform account with billing enabled is required to use Google Maps Platform and generate an API key.

Usage credits

All new Google Cloud Platform accounts receive a one-time $300 credit that can be used for any Google Cloud products, including Google Maps Platform.

In addition all accounts receive a monthly recurring $200 Google Maps Platform credit that can be used for any Google Maps Platform products.


Generate your API key

If you do not have a Google Cloud account with billing enabled, you will be taken through the registration and billing account creation process, and a new API key will automatically be generated for you.

If you currently have a Google Cloud account with billing enabled, you will be directed to the "Credentials" page of the Google Cloud console, where you can generate an API key for your project.
